The fire service said that the fire at the BGB Market in Uttara Sector 7, House Building of the capital has been brought under control. The cause of the fire and the extent of casualties or damage were not immediately known.
The fire broke out at 10:25 am on Monday.
"The fire was brought under control at 11:10 am with 45-minute effort of 5 units of the fire service", said the senior station officer of Uttara fire service, Md. Alam Hossain.
The tinshed market has a variety of grocery stores including several clothing stores, bike servicing centers and tea shops. Several shops have been burnt.
