US sanctions on RAB is upsetting: Foreign Minister

Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen has remarked that the US sanctions on seven former and current Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officials over violating human rights is upsetting. 

He also said that the US ambassador appointed in Dhaka has been summoned recently to explain regarding the matter. 

The foreign minister made these comments while he was responding to queries from the media after the joining a seminar at the capital's Foreign Service academy on Saturday (December 11) afternoon.

On World Human Rights Day, the US slapped sanctions on seven top officials of RAB for violating human rights. including Benazir Ahmed, now inspector general of police (IGP). 

The five officials are: RAB Director General Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun; Khan Mohammad Azad, additional director general (operations) of Rab; Tofayel Mustafa Sorwar, former additional director general (operations); Mohammad Jahangir Alam, former additional director general (operations), and Mohammad Anwar Latif Khan, former additional director general (operations).
