Sacked police official Babul Akter denied bail plea

A Chattogram court has rejected the bail plea of sacked police official Babul Aktar who is now in custody as trial is undergoing for allegedly killing his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.

Judge Shafi Uddin of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate court passed the order after conducting a virtual hearing on Tuesday (August 10).

This was the first bail plea filed by former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter after he was arrested on May 12 this year.

“We have appealed to the magistrate court for granting Babul Akter bail. Court rejected the plea after hearing,” defence lawyer Advocate Najmul Huda told to media.

Mitu was shot and stabbed to dead in broad daylight at GEC intersection in Chattogram city while she went there to drop her son for school bus on June 5, 2016.

Mitu’s husband Babul Akter as, a plaintiff, filed a case accusing several anonymous with Panchlaish police station on that night.

Initially the case was shifted to city DB police. The next year, court ordered to handover the case to Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

The PBI probe found connection of Babul Akter to the murder. Later on, Mitu’s father Mosharraf Hossain filed another case with the same police station on May 12 where Babul Akter was named as prime accused.
