Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested eight members of a human trafficking gang, including its ring leader, on early Wednesday from Badda Link Road area of the capital.

The ring leader Saiful Islam alias Tutul, 38, was a grocery shop owner in Kamandi village under Gangni area in Meherpur district.

The other arrestees are: Tayub Ali, 45, Shah Mohammad Jalal Uddin Limon, 38, Md Maruf Hasan, 37, Md Jahangir Alam, 38, Md Laltu Islam, 28, Md Alamin Hossain, 30, and Md Abdullah Al Mamun, 54.

RAB 4 Commanding Officer Mozammel Haque disclosed the information at RAB's media center in Dhaka on Wednesday.

He said legal actions are underway against the arrested accused.

“RAB conducted raids to three offices – Tutul Overseas, Limon Overseas and Loyal Overseas – after guardians of some women, who were trafficked to Middle East, complained to RAB,” he said. While working as a grocery shop owner, Tutul sometimes used to come to Dhaka.

In lure of earning more money quickly, he gradually got involved with a gang of traffickers and started recruiting people to send them abroad through various agencies.

Later, he opened agencies of his own and embezzled huge sum of money by promising to send many unemployed but educated people from different parts of the country, the RAB official said.

RAB also claimed to rescue four victims during the raid.

After recruiting the people for trafficking, the ring used to forge various documents including fake medical tests, Abdullah Al Mamun said.

After completing all the procedures, the ring used to sell people abroad in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Lebanon.
