India repots two Omicron variant cases

India has reported two cases of the new coronavirus variant Omicron which was first detected in South Africa.

Two people have been diagnosed with the variant in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, Indian Health Minister said on Thursday (December 2).

Both the people identified with the Omicron variant are male. One is 46 years old while the other 66, reports Indian Express citing central health minister of the country Lav Agarwal.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria on Wednesday reported cases of the new variant. The fast-spreading virus has been detected in 25 countries across the world.
