12th Parliament Election scheduled next week: EC Secretary

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Md Jahangir Alam said that the schedule of the 12th National Parliament election will be announced next week.

He gave this information to reporters in his office at the election building on Wednesday.

The secretary said, "The CEC has repeatedly said that the EC is determined to hold the elections within the stipulated time."

Stating that the 12th parliamentary election is imminent, Jahangir Alam said that according to the constitution, the election should be held within the stipulated time. As per custom, before announcing the schedule, the Commission had a courtesy call with the President. In continuation of this, the meeting is scheduled for Thursday.

"Already the commission has repeatedly said that the schedule can be any day in the second half of November. Accordingly, the election can be held in the last week of December or the first week of January, said the secretary", said the secretary.

Regarding the foreign observers, the secretary said, so far three organizations (NDI, EU and Commonwealth) have confirmed by mail to the commission. Among them is an institution in the United States, which has done pre-assessment. The EU has already said that most recently a team from the Commonwealth has sought a meeting with the EC.

In response to the question whether it can be scheduled between November 12-14 next week, the EC Secretary said that the media will be informed when the commission takes a decision on this matter. All the preparatory work of the Election Commission is progressing. Election materials are also being sent to the district level step by step.

He said that the Ministry of Home Affairs issued circulars on time. They have already been asked to take necessary measures. Adequate law enforcement personnel will be on site. The Ministry of Home Affairs will issue circulars to ensure that voters can cast their votes smoothly and the Ministry will work accordingly.
