49 players to study in DU as it re-introduces ‍‍`sports quota‍‍` after 20 yrs

National football team goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico, midfielder Shekh Morsalin, Tiger batter Towhid Hridoy have been initially nominated to study Dhaka University (DU), country’s one of the highest echelon in education.

As many as 49 people including those mentioned got chance to be enrolled in 2022-23 academic year.

The coordinator of the university‍‍`s arts, law and social science unit also the dean of Arts Faculty Dr Abdul Bashir notified this through a circular on Sunday.

The sports persons who got the opportunity were requested to fill up the admission forms and pay the required fees along with subject choice between September 18 and September 20.

Women‍‍`s football team player Ritu Porna Chakma, Nilufar Yesmin Nila, Under 19 cricketer Ariful Islam, Riya Akhter Shikha, boxer Khandaker Arif Hasan and many others are in this list.

Moreover, Md Abul Bashar, Abdul Majeed, Gourav Singha, KM Salim Reza these four have been nominated.

Also two from Kho Kho, one from Swimming, one from Roll-Ball, one from Wushu, three from Badminton, five from Hockey and four from Volleyball and some others from Taekwondo, Judo, Handball, Karate, Shooting have been preliminarily nominated.

Earlier on July 4, DU decided to admit sports persons from a general admission committee meeting.

Mentionable, in the 2002-03 session, most of the students admitted under the player quota were actually not players.

As a result, many controversies were surfaced and DU abstained from player quota from the next session 2003-2004 session. After almost 20 years, player quota was re-introduced.
