Sirajul Islam, the first mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), passed away due to old-age complications at his residence in Khulna city early this morning. He was 90.
Shafiqul Islam Sipar, elder son of the former mayor, said his father breathed his last around 4:45 am at their house on Haji Mohsin Road in the city.
Sirajul`s namaz-e-janaza will be held at Khulna’s Shaheed Hadis Park after Asr prayers, he said, adding that his father had been suffering from old-age complications for a long time.
The former mayor is survived by two sons, four daughters, and a host of well-wishers. His wife died earlier.
Current KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque condoled the death of Sirajul Islam and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
He also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
