Former Mayor Advocate, Mohammad Jahangir Alam's nomination paper submitted as an independent candidate for the post of Mayor in the Gazipur City Corporation Elections to be held on May 25 has been cancelled. However, the returning officer, Faridul Islam said that his nomination paper is valid.
He gave this information from the returning officer's office located at Bangtaz auditorium in Gazipur on Sunday (April 30). Returning Officer Faridul Islam said, "Jahangir Alam was the guarantor of a garment factory's loan. The designation of the mentioned institution as a guarantor is considered invalid because it has forfeited."
Jahangir Alam submitted his nomination papers as an independent candidate for the post of mayor in the Gazipur City Corporation elections on Thursday. Besides, he submitted another nomination paper in the name of his mother, Zayeda Khatun for the post of mayor.
As per the schedule, the candidates have been able to collect and submit their nomination papers till April 27. Today the nomination papers submitted were selected. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is May 8. The next day on May 9, symbols will be allocated among the candidates and the election will be held on May 25.
