BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said in a meeting with the US Ambassador Peter Haas in Dhaka that BNP will not participate in any election under the Awami League government. Free and fair elections are not possible under this government.
Fakhrul said this in a meeting with Ambassador Peter Haas at the US Embassy today.
The BNP Secretary General went to the US Embassy in Dhaka at around 1:00 pm and held a meeting with Ambassador Peter Haas for over an hour.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam went at the invitation of Peter Haas and is said to be the only BNP representative in the meeting. During that time, they discussed the current political situation, the upcoming elections and the new US visa policy.
He said, ``BNP`s stand on the upcoming elections is very clear and the matter has been again informed to the US ambassador.``
BNP Secretary General said, ``He told Peter Haas that the new US visa policy is shameful for Bangladesh. This has happened due to the misdeeds and mismanagement of the government and state apparatus."
But he also mentioned that the people of the country have welcomed the policy.
