A woman has allegedly been raped by seven people for three days when she went to visit Sylhet on invitation of one of her female friends.
Nazmul Huda, officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station, confirmed the incident. A complaint was lodged with Jalalabad Police on Tuesday.
He said: "The crime took place at the house of the girl’s ‘friend’ Julee from August 19 to August 21. Police arrested three people in this connection. They were Julekha alias Julee, 19, friend of the rape victim, her husband Zubayer Hossain, 28 and Joynal Mia, 40."
Of the arrestees one gave confessional statement before the court on Tuesday while the two others were placed on one-day remand.
According to the complaint, the girl, hailing from Mymensingh district, used to live in Azimpur in Dhaka.
After getting invitation from her Facebook friend Julee, the girl went to her house in Sylhet. Later, the alleged rapists with the help of Julee confined her to a room where she was violated by seven people twice.
Julee assisted the rapists during her stay in the house, it said.
Now the girl is undergoing treatment at Osmani Medical College and Hospital, said Azbahar Ali Sheikh, deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.
