4 killed, 24 injured in Sylhet, Bogra road mishaps

Four people, including a minor boy, were killed and more than 20 people were injured in separate road accidents in Sylhet and Bogra on Wednesday, according to UNB.

In Sylhet, three people were killed and 20 more were injured as a motorcycle, a bus and two three-wheelers collided in a pile-up near Haripur Bazar in Jaintapur upazila.

Motorcycle rider Ataur Rahman Sunny, 30, and three-wheeler passengers Rokon Uddin, 45, and Tahmid Tasin, 10, paid with their lives.

All bus passengers suffered injuries, police said.

According to passengers of the bus, the accident occurred at 4.30 pm. The bus was heading to Jaflong from Sylhet, when suddenly a motorbike appeared in front, crossing a three-wheeler coming from the opposite direction. It was too late to avoid a catastrophe, and once things settled down a bit, a second three-wheeler was found caught up in the crash as well.

Jaintapur Police officer-in-charge (OC) Golam Dastagir Ahmed confirmed that three people were killed in the accident. The bodies were sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Morgue for autopsy.

He said the bus, motorcycle and two battery-powered three-wheelers have been handed over to the highway police. However, the driver and helper of the bus managed to escape

In Bogra, a 45-year-old man was killed and four others injured in Sherpur upazila as two CNG-run autorickshaws collided head-on.

The deceased was identified as Yasin Ali, a construction worker and resident of village Omarpur of the district's Nandigram upazila.

The accident occurred at Darugram on the Sherpur-Nandigram Road at 10am, according to locals.

Two CNG-run autorickshaws collided head-on, leaving one passenger – Yasin Ali – dead on the spot and four others injured, Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nandigram Police Station, said. "Yasin's family came to the scene of the accident and took his body home."

Police recorded an unnatural death case over the mishap, he added.
