Charge hearing against Samrat in graft case Jan 30

A Dhaka court has deferred the date for charge hearing against Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, the expelled Juba League leader and the alleged casino kingpin, in a corruption case to 30 January, 2023.

The case was set to be heard in the court of Judge Al Asad Md Asifuzzaman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 on Sunday. But Samrat’s lawyers sought time and therefore, the court set new date for charge hearing.

The court granted bail to Samrat in the corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) till 11 December.

ACC Deputy Director Md Jahangir Alam, also investigating officer of the case, filed a corruption case on the allegation of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 2,94,80,087 on 12 November, 2019.

After investigating the case, the ACC Deputy Director submitted charge sheet to the court against Samrat on 26 November, 2020.
