Rifat Hossain, son of Mahmudul Alam Babu, the prime suspect in the murder of journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim in Jamalpur, has been suspended from the post of joint convener of Bakshiganj upazila unit Chhatra League.

He was suspended for violating organizational discipline, according to a press release issued by Chhatra League today.

The press release said the image of the organization has been tarnished as Rifat‍‍`s name appeared in different media for his alleged involvement with the murder of Nadim in Jamalpur.

At the same time, he has been asked to give a written reply within seven days as to why he should not be expelled from the party.

Jamalpur district BCL president Khairul Islam and general secretary Nafiul Karim Rabbi confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.

Earlier, Rifat‍‍`s father Babu was arrested by RAB in Panchagarh.

Babu, chairman of Sadhurpara Union Parishad and general secretary of Bakshiganj upazila Awami League, was also suspended from the party for violating party discipline.

Nadim died on Thursday, a day after he was attacked and injured allegedly by some supporters of Babu in Bakshiganj.

Nadim, 42, was the Jamalpur district correspondent of Banglanews24.com and Bakshiganj upazila correspondent of Ekattor TV.
