After a botched missile launch during a joint rehearsal with the US caused panic among residents of Gangneung, a coastal city, consequently, the South Korean military apologized.
That night, they reported having seen fire and experienced an explosion.
Although there were no injuries, according to the military, they didn`t recognize the event for another seven hours.
North Korea had earlier on Tuesday morning launched a missile over Japan, preceding the launch.
This was Pyongyang`s first missile launch over Japan since 2017, and it sparked military drills by the US, Japan, and South Korea as a show of force. Additionally, Seoul and Washington launched a barrage of missiles into the East Sea, sometimes referred to as the Sea of Japan.
