Iran‍‍`s security forces open fire as thousands gather to mourn Mahsa Amini

On Wednesday, thousands of protesters gathered in Mahsa Amini‍‍`s hometown to mark the 40th day since her death. As per AFP reports, Iranian security forces opened fire on the protesters.

Amini died on September 16, three days after her arrest in Tehran by police for allegedly breaching the Islamic dress code for women. The death of 22-year-old Iranian sparked nationwide protests and a crackdown, which further garnered international attention with demonstrations staged in different parts of the world.

 

There have reportedly been gunshots fired during clashes between Iranian security forces and demonstrators who had assembled in their thousands in Mahsa Amini‍‍`s hometown to mark 40 days since her passing.

 

More than 50 civilians were injured by direct fire in cities across the region.

Witnesses confirmed shots were fired, while the Iranian government said security forces had been forced to respond to riots. Later they tried to block internet access in the region.
