20 Umrah pilgrims died in a bus accident in Saudi Arabia

A bus carrying Umrah pilgrims lost control and overturned on a bridge in southwestern Saudi Arabia, killing 20 people and injuring 29 others. Initially, their identity is still not known.

According to the report of local media Al-Ekhbariya, the accident occurred in Aqabat Shaar area of ​​Asir province when the bus was travelling from Khamis Mushait to Abha. The bus overturned after hitting the bridge and caught fire. The bus had brake issues that caused it to crash into a barrier at the end of a bridge, which led it to flip and catch fire.

The report said the victims had "different nationalities" but did not mention them or provide a breakdown.

Rescue teams of Civil Defense and Red Crescent are on the spot and carrying out rescue operations.

The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

Aqabat Shaar is a 14 km road that was constructed more than 40 years ago. According to the Saudi News Agency, it was built by carving through mountains, creating 11 tunnels, and building 32 bridges.
