A first-year Dhaka University (DU) student staged a four-hour solo sit-in protest program on Wednesday on campus in response to an alleged attack on him in Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall on earlier night by a group of Chhatra League men.

Around 8:00 am, International Business student Rifat Hawlader began the sit-in at the base of Raju sculpture, according to the witnesses.

Around noon, the hall‍‍`s house tutors took him back to the hall with the promise that action would be taken following the investigation.

"After learning about the event, we brought the student back into the hall. Rifat is one of our students, but he left the hall without telling me," stated Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall provost Prof Muhammad Bellal Hossain.

Rifat said, "I was attacked twice by the Chhatra League activists in the guestroom without any altercation."

In the meantime, a three-person investigative team led by house tutor Najmus Sakib has been formed by the hall administration to look into the complaint.

Tanbir Hasan Shaikat General Secretary of DU unit of Chhatra League informed that if someone had been involved with the incident, his organization would take action against the alleged after investigation.
