State Minister for Commerce, Ahsanul Islam Titu, confirmed that the initial batch of 1,650 tonnes of onions is scheduled to arrive from India by tonight. Following their arrival, these onions will be made available for sale in Dhaka and Chittagong at Tk 40 per kilogram through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).

Titu affirmed this announcement following a meeting of the ‍‍`Commodity Price and Market Situation Review Task Force‍‍` held in the Ministry of Commerce‍‍`s conference room on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering, the state minister reassured the public regarding the availability of sugar, indicating that there is currently no need to import it. Furthermore, he announced changes in the rice market, stating that from the upcoming Paola Baisakh, rice will no longer be sold under the categories of coarse, narrow, or miniket. Additionally, rice packaging from the millgate must specify the rice type and production cost.

Expressing his satisfaction as a state minister, Titu noted improvements in product supply and pricing in the market. He highlighted the decline in prices observed across various commodities compared to the beginning of Ramadan, indicating a positive trend in market stability.
