Writ petition seeks High Court order on Khaleda's treatment abroad

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking permission to allow BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to go abroad for advanced treatment.

Supreme Court lawyer Younus Ali Akand filed the writ petition in the concerned branch of the High Court on Monday (December 20).

Later, Yunus Ali Akand told the media that the writ petition would be presented on Tuesday (December 21) for hearing in a dual bench of the High Court headed by Justice Mamnoon Rahman.

The writ petition seeks permission to allow Khaleda Zia to leave the country for advanced treatment under Articles 401 (1) of the Criminal Procedure Code, Articles 11, 32 and 49 of the Constitution, as well as Articles 3, 5, 11 and 13 (2) of the UN Universal Declaration. Rule has been sought as to why the defendants will not be instructed to take necessary action.

The ruling seeks to take necessary steps to allow Khaleda Zia to leave the country for advanced treatment in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Constitution, the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Articles.

The law secretary, the cabinet secretary, the chief secretary of the prime minister's office, the secretary to the president's secretariat and the home secretary have been named as defendants in the writ petition.
