Writ filed seeking compensation to launch fire victims

A writ petition has been field seeking compensation to the victims of MV Abhijan-10 that caught fire at mid-river on its way to Barguna from Dhaka.

Lawyer Yunus Ali Akhand filed the petition on Sunday with the relevant branch of the high court. The writ petition also sought judicial probe into the incident that killed 42 people so far.   

Besides, compensation of taka 50 lakh was sought for the families of each deceased while taka 20 lakh were demanded for the injured.

The petition will be placed for hearing before a high court bench headed by justice M Enayetur Rahim on Monday, petitioner Yunus Ali Akhand said.

Meanwhile, a case has been filed against the launch owner along with 20-25 people.

The owner went traceless since the incident was reported.

Survivors blamed master and other staffers of the launch for the accident.
