Student 'assaulted for not attending BSL’s programme'

A student of Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University allegedly assaulted another student for not attending a programme of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

On Sunday, Sagar Sarkar, a postgraduate student in the mathematics department of the university, lodged a written complaint against the BCL activist Satyajit Debnath.

However, Satyajit denied the allegation of physical assault and admitted to giving ‘threats’.

Professor Mihir Lal Saha, provost of the hall, said, “We have heard about the incident and received a written complaint. We will look into the matter and take administrative action.”

The accused is a student of the 2013-14 session of the Geology Department of University.

Sagar said, “My final exam is on December 29. That is why I am not able to attend the BCL programme regularly.

“I was resting in my room this afternoon. Suddenly, Satyajit Debnath entered the room with his followers and started abusing me in vulgar language and started physically assaulting me. Then he threw my bed down from the 10th floor.”
