On Monday (December 27), the department of Shipping issued a notification to bar the use of and removal of stoves and cylinders on passengers launches at Sadarghat river port in the capital.
The decision comes following he deadly fire that claimed the lives of at least 43 people on a launch in the Sugandha River near Jhalakathi last week.
Authorities would take action if any gas stoves were found on passenger launches from now on, said the notification.
