Rajshahi's Godagari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Jana Alam and six others have been sued in a case for filling a pond without regard to environmental laws.
Lawyer Salah Uddin Biswas filed the case with the Environment Court in Rajshahi.
The court's senior judicial magistrate, Md Abu Taleb, accepted the case and fixed the date for hearing on the case on May 22 in presence of an inspector from the Department of Environment.
The UNO said the pond was under illegal occupation of some local people for last 15 years. Those illegal grabbers were cultivating crops after filling up the pond, he said.
The land was recovered from the illegal grabbers several months ago and the local administration started developing the land three months ago for preparing it for a government housing project, the UNO said.
"The land grabbers are now taking new strategies to keep the land under their occupation," he added.
