RAB tracks down 3 missing sisters in Jessore

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have found the three sisters, who went missing from the Adabor area of Dhaka on Thursday (November 19).

RAB confirmed that the three teenage sisters who went missing from their home in Dhaka were found safe at their father's house in Jessore on Friday.

Sisters Rokeya, 18, Zainab Ara, 18, and Khadija Ara, 17, went to Jessore on Thursday to see their ailing father, they told RAB.

Rokeya passed the SSC exams last year, and her younger sisters are taking the exams this year.

The girls, who live with their maternal aunt Sajia Nawrin at Adabar, left the house on Thursday morning without informing her, she said in a general diary she filed with Adabar police.

RAB-2 joined the hunt for the girls and tracked their location to their father’s ancestral home in Jessore.

RAB arranged a video call between the girls and their aunt to assure her that they are safe.

The girls’ mother died of cancer in 2013 and since then they have been living legally with their aunt.

Police analyzed CCTV footage and also visited their house at Shekhertek, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Momin, also the investigation officer. At 11:04am on Thursday, three sisters were seen coming out of the house carrying bags.

Sajia claims the girls’ father left their mother after she gave birth to three daughters. He married another woman and never looked after his daughters.

“Since my sister died, the three sisters have lived with me and my younger sister. They used to study from our houses in Adabor and Khilgaon,” Sajia said.

She said the eldest of the three sisters passed SSC last year. The two younger sisters are participating in the SSC exams this year.

They have their next exams on November 22 but left the house on Thursday morning without saying anything. Sajia got back home to pick up a file she forgot to take with her and discovered that the house was locked and the keys were kept in a basket outside.
