Slap to WB? PM Sheikh Hasina gifted picture of Padma Bridge to WB President

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented a photo frame having picture of Padma Bridge inside it to the World Bank President David Malpass at the headquarters of the organization in Washington on Monday (May 1).

On the occasion of celebrating 50 years of Bangladesh-World Bank partnership, Sheikh Hasina, who is visiting Washington, participated in several programs at the World Bank headquarters from the morning.

As the first program, a photo exhibition was inaugurated at the United Nations headquarters on Monday morning. The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and World Bank President David Malpas.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the World Bank to work together to build a brighter future with an attitude of mutual trust.

Premier then participated in an informal views exchange with the Executive Directors of the World Bank. In the exchange of views, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "The World Bank withdrew from financing an important project like the Padma Bridge by accusing it of corruption due to external pressure."

Participated in the main event organized to celebrate 50 years of Bangladesh-World Bank partnership, Hasina said, "When we went to build the Padma Bridge, a false accusation of corruption was made against us. I took it as a challenge."

She added, "After losing everything, I did not come to power to do corruption or making my own fortune. I have come to build the destiny of the people of Bangladesh."

After a bilateral visit to Japan, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is on a visit to Washington to attend the 50th anniversary celebration of Bangladesh-World Bank partnership at the invitation of the World Bank President.
