Launch fire fatalities rise to 46 as another body found

Members of fire service and civil defence have recovered bodies of two people six days after MV Abhijan-10 launch caught fire.

Locals saw the body floating at Bishkhali river around 8:30 am Wednesday and informed the fire service rescuers.

About three hours later, another body of an anonymous youth was found at a char in Bishkhali.

The deceased is likely to be 30 years old. A photo was found in his moneybag. But the fire service officials are yet to confirm who was the person in the photo. 

Jhalokathi fire service’s station officer Shafiqul Islam said, the deceased was presumably 35 years old.

After preliminary inquiry the body will be sent to Jhalokathi Sadar hospital, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Saiful Islam of Sadar police station.

Earlier on Tuesday, rescuers recovered two other bodies from Sugandha river and another decomposed body from Bishkhali river on Monday.

The Barguna-bound Abhijan-10 caught fire while at the wee hours on 24 December. As many as 45 corpses have been recovered so far. Many passengers sustained burn injury.
