Information gap paves the way to open letter for Dr Yunus: Momen

Bangladesh‍‍`s Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen On Thursday claimed that the well-known figures who signed an open letter to the prime minister calling for an end to the "persecution" of Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus might have believed that he was the target of political harassment in Bangladesh due to a lack of information.

"You are aware that is untrue. We honor him for winning the Nobel Prize. There is no case that we (the government) have brought

. We are unable to even drop the lawsuits. In response to a query from a reporter, he said that "our judiciary is independent.

He stated, referring to the international dignitaries who signed the letter, "I think there is an information gap.

He told reporters during a briefing at foreign ministry. 

More than 160 global leaders, including over 100 Nobel laureates, wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, expressing their deep concern about the safety and wellbeing of Prof Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh’s only Nobel laureate.
