Infections may surge in March-April: Health Department

Prof. Abul Bashar Mohammed Khurshid Alam, director general of the directorate general of health services (DGHS), said infections from Omicron variant of Covid-19 may surge in March-April.

He made the comments while talking to reporters at his office on Monday (December 3) afternoon.

He added: "We anticipate an outbreak between March and April. Consequently, we are working to strengthen the capacity of hospitals across the country.”

As the supply of oxygen was deficit when the Delta variant reached its peak in June-July last year, work is underway to install oxygen generators in 40 hospitals to ensure that does not happen in case of omicron outbreak.

Apart from these 40 hospitals, oxygen generators are being installed in other hospitals as well, he added. However, he did not specify the number.
