HC orders against essential goods hoarders

The High Court (HC) has ordered authorities concerned to take action against people hoarding essential goods and making syndicates to raise the price of those.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice SM Maniruzzaman passed the order on Tuesday, asking to submit a report on executing the order by April 26.

The court also issued a rule, asking authorities concerned to reply as to why they shall not formulate a regulation under section 21 (1) of the Competition Act to stop syndication. The court also asked authorities concerned to explain why it shall not pass order to essentials like rice, pulses, edible oil, sugar, onion and wheat through ration card after including these into OMS policy.

The High Court came up with the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyers Advocate Monir Hossain, Advocate Syed Mohidul Kabir and Advocate Mohammad Ullah.

Advocate Syed Mohidul Kabir and Advocate Syed Nasrin moved the plea before the court, while Deputy Attorney General Protikar Chakma stood for the state.
