The operation of the country's first-ever metro rail service is just a matter of time now as the prime minister is all set to inaugurate it at 11am on Wednesday.
After the opening, the metro rail will run straight from Uttara to Agargaon without any stop at any intermediate station along the route. Commuters will be able to take a trip on the train the next day.
On the opening day, a number of guests are invited to take their maiden rides on the latest transport system in the country. The guests who will make their journey on from Uttara to Agargaon have been asked to purchase recharge cards worth Tk500 each.
In the process, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will become the first passenger of the city's most modern transport system. The premier will be accompanied by several cabinet members and MPs among others.
A number of the guests have already bought their recharge cards.
Sharing an image of his card, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam on Tuesday night wrote on Facebook that "Ready for the historic journey from Uttara to Agargaon. All invited guests are told to buy Tk500 recharge cards."
Similarly, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, state minister for shipping, on his Facebook profile wrote, "Ready. Will go from Uttara to Agargaon... will see tomorrow (Wednesday)."
Khalid told an online news portal that the metro rail is a milestone in the country's mass transport system, which will be launched by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"I've bought a Tk500 recharge card to join the festival," he added.
