Five killed in Cumilla, Cox's Bazar road crashes

Five people including two teenagers were killed in separate road crashes in Cumilla and Cox's Bazar on Friday.

In Cumilla, two persons on a motorcycle were killed as an unidentified vehicle rammed into them in Cumilla Sadar Dakshin Upazila.

The deceased were identified as Abdullah Al Mamun, 14, only son of Md. Humayun Kabir of Keshanpar village of Bagmara North Union of Lalmai Upazila, and Masud Alam, 15, son of Babul Mia of Chandipur village.

Abdullah was a student of class X at Bagmara High School.

Morshedul Alam Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalmai Highway Police Station, said the accident occurred when the vehicle hit the motorbike on the Cumilla-Noakhali Regional Highway in Ratanpur area, leaving them dead on the spot.

The vehicle that hit them could not be identified immediately.

The bodies were handed over to the relatives after due procedures, said the OC, adding that legal action is underway.

In Cox's Bazar, three persons were killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar this morning.

One of the deceased was identified as Badiul Alam, the auto-rickshaw driver, police and locals said.

The accident took place around 7:00am on Shahid ATM Zafar Alam Road in Bharabridge area.

Anwarul Hossain, officer-in-charge of Ramu Police Station, said two persons died on the spot after the Teknaf-bound truck collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw .

One of the injured succumbed to the injuries on his way to hospital, he said, adding that the two other injured are receiving treatment at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.

Police are trying to identify the two other deceased.
