First session of 12th Parliament is on 30 January

President Md. Shahbuddin called the first session of the 12th Parliament on January 30.

This was informed in a circular of the Legislative Support Wing of the National Parliament on Monday.

The notification signed by KM Abdus Salam, Senior Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat informed that the session will start at 3 pm on January 30.

The 12th National Parliament Election was held on January 7. Awami League formed the government for the fourth consecutive time by getting 222 seats. Independent candidates got 62 seats in the election. Jatiya Party won 11 seats. And Workers Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and Bangladesh Kalyan Party won one seat each.

On January 11, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took oath as the Prime Minister for the fourth consecutive time and for the fifth time in total. The new cabinet members also sworn in on the same day. 36 Ministers-State Ministers of the new Cabinet have already taken charge of their Ministries and Departments.

Speaker, Deputy Speaker will be elected in the first session of Parliament. According to the constitution, the president addresses the first session of the year after the election. Later, the members of parliament participated in the discussion on the motion of thanks brought on that speech. The first session of the year is likely to run throughout the month of February, according to sources in the Parliament Secretariat.
