Covid-19: Bangladesh reports 13,862 fresh cases, 212 casualties

Bangladesh on Frday reported 13,862 Covid-19 cases while the coronavirus claimed overnight 212 lives.

The country reported 30.77 percent COVID-19 positive cases as 45,044 samples were tested in the past 24 hours. The daily infection continued to exceed 10,000 mark for several days since on July 6, "Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its routine daily statement.

The official tally showed the virus killed 20,467 people and infected 12,40,115 so far, it added.

The recovery count rose to 10,64,195 after another 13,975 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning 85.81 percent recovered, while 1.65 percent die

Of the people died in the last 24 hours, 119 were male and 93 female. Of the total deaths so far, 13,869 were male and 6,598 female.

Among the 212 patients died in the last 24 hours, 202 breathed their last at different hospitals while nine passed away at homes while one was brought dead to hospitals.

Out of the Covid-19 patients died in that time, 65 were in Dhaka division, 53 in Chattogram, 13 in Rajshahi, 36 in Khulna, 11 in Barishal, 17 in Sylhet, nine in Rangpur, and eight in Mymensingh division.

A total of 48,568 samples were collected in the last 24 hours. As of Friday, the number of samples tested in Bangladesh stands at 7,708,914.

Bangladesh detected its first coronavirus patient on 8 March last year and recorded its first death in the disease on 18 March that year.
