Country to receive 25 lakh more Pfizer shots tonight

A consignment of 25 lakh doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine is scheduled to arrive Dhaka from the US under COVAX facilities on Monday night.

A cargo plane carrying the shots will reach at 10:15 pm at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from Florida, according to a press release signed by Maidul Islam Prodhan - senior information officer of the health ministry.

The US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller and Director General of Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam are expected to receive the consignment of the vaccine at the airport, said the release.

With the fresh batch, Bangladesh will receive a total of 36 lakh 4 thousand 480 jabs of Pfizer vaccines under COVAX facility. 

The first consignment of 1 lakh 620 doses of Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine under COVAX scheme arrived in Bangladesh on May 31, this year. Bangladesh got 10 lakh vaccine out of 60 lakh on September 1 and the remaining 50 lakh doses of Pfizer vaccine will arrive in phases by this month. 

On May 27, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) approved emergency use of Pfizer mRNA Covid-19 vaccine in the country.

Bangladesh received nearly 5 crore doses of coronavirus vaccines till the date,, the DGHS sources said.
