Bangladesh reports 1,116 new infections in a day

Health authorities in Bangladesh reported 1,116 fresh infections in the last 24-hours till Saturday morning.

With the latest development, the tally of Covid-19 infections in the country has reached 1,592,209.

In terms of infections, Dhaka reported the highest cases amid the eight divisions, with 943 cases. 

Daily positivity rate rose by 5.79 percent, after testing 19,275 samples. Meanwhile, the overall mortality rate dropped to 1.76% in the same 24 hours.

One fatality was reported during the same period, taking the tally of Covid-19 deaths to 28,099 till Saturday. 

During the same period, another 154 people recovered from the infectious illness, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,550,688.

The figures were recorded between Friday 8:00 am and Saturday 8:00 am. 

The latetst Covid-19 situation in the country was reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its routine daily statement. 

Bangladesh is experiencing a surge in infections in recent weeks. To curb transmissions the government has announced fresh measures. 

Dining in restaurants have been barred without vaccine certificate. Public transportation services will operate with 50 percent capacity, and the mask mandate will be strictly monitored. 

Bangladesh has reported 20 cases of the new and highly infectious the Omicron variant of Covid-19 so far.
