6 farmers died while harvesting crops in Sunamganj due to thunderstroke

6 farmers along with 2 children of 3 upazilas lost their lives due to lightning while harvesting paddy in Hawar in Sunamganj. Among the dead, 3 people are from Chatak Upazila, 2 people from Doarabazar Upazila and one from Tahirpur Upazila.

The incident took place in between 10am to 11am today. 

The deceased are Mahim Mia (13) son of Hosam Mia of Debergaon village in Jawabazar union of Chatak, Arsh Ali (60) of Borokapon village and Abdus Samad (45) son of Golam Mostafa of Chardurlav village of Charmahalla union, Milan Mia (14) and Tara Mia of Ekkhai village of Doarabazar upazila. (32), Ramzan Ali (15) son of Hatem Ali of Kukurkandi village of Tahirpur upazila.

According to police and local sources, the weather condition was bad since morning. Everyone was busy harvesting paddy as there was ripe paddy in Howar. After 10 am, rain and thunder started with gusty wind and the farmers died due to lightning strike.

Confirming the death, Superintendent of Police, Mohammad Ehsan Shah said, ''It has been raining since morning. I have received information that 6 people have died in 3 thanas. Officers-in-charge of all police stations have been instructed to make the farmers aware."
