14 more southern districts likely to be inundated

The flood the situation is worsening in the Southern part of the country as 14 districts of southern Bangladesh are likely to be inundated in the next two days.

According to report of Prothom Alo,  four more districts of the central part may be flooded due to the rise of water levels in Padma river.

The floods may continue for 7 to 10 more days, according to the flood forecasting and warning center of Bangladesh.

Rainfall might increase in India’s bordering states of Meghalaya, Assam and West Bengal in the next two days resulting in an exacerbation of the flood situation in Bangladesh.

The water level of two main river basins-- the Brahmaputra and Ganges—are increasing simultaneously, says the report.

The water in the Teesta river has also crossed the danger level. As a result, 30 to 40 per cent of the country might get inundated for the next 7 to 10 days.

According to the flood forecasting centre, the water of the Brahmaputra has entered through Kurigram and is likely to inundate Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogura, Tangail, Sirajganj, Manikganj and Pabna. Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Rangpur in the Teesta basin might also get flooded.
