135 Bangladeshis left for Jeddah from Port Sudan

Among the 675 Bangladeshis trapped in the ongoing conflict between Sudan's army and the country's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), 135 have left for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. They were supposed to be taken to Jeddah by ship from Port Sudan but they are being taken to Jeddah by plane as no ship is available.

An official of Jeddah Bangladesh Mission confirmed this information to the media. However, it is not finalized yet that how the remaining trapped people would be taken.

Earlier, 675 Bangladeshis who were stuck in 13 buses from Sudan's capital Khartoum arrived at Port Sudan last Wednesday. They could not reach Jeddah due to delay in getting travel permit issue and ship schedule.  Later a flight took 135 people to Jeddah today in the morning.

A source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that after reaching Jeddah from Sudan, the process of bringing them back to Dhaka on a special flight of Bangladesh Biman will be started.

The conflict between Sudan's army and paramilitary forces has been going on since April 15. More than four hundred people have been killed in the conflict so far. Apart from civilians, UN staff, Egypt's Assistant Defense Adviser are included among the dead.

There are about 1,500 Bangladeshis in Sudan. Among them, about 700 Bangladeshis have registered to return to the country.
