Pori Moni’s bail plea denied, remanded again for a day

A Dhaka court granted local police one day to interrogate Dhallywood star Pori Moni in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act on Thursday (August 19).

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Atikul Islam passed the order after Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector Kazi Golam Mostafa produced her before the court.

The inspector had sought five days to interrogate her further, while Pori’s lawyers filed a petition seeking bail and opposing the remand petition.

The court rejected the bail plea after hearing and gave police one day to question her.

On Aug 16, Pori’s lawyer Mojibur Rahman had petitioned Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury for bail but the court had set August 18 for the hearing which was rescheduled later on.

Previously, Dhallywood star Pori Moni became the talk of the nation in Bangladesh after a series of raids on August 4.

She and her aide Bangladeshi film producer Nazrul Islam Raz were arrested with liquor and drugs from their respective homes in the capital’s Banani on the same day.

Bangladesh Police’s elite force RAB, who conducted these raids, also claimed to have seized BDSM and porn making equipment from Raz’s home during the operation.

Pori is currently under investigation in several drug cases while Raz and his aides are being investigated in cases under the Narcotics and Pornography Act.
