Matia Chowdhury elected MP for 6th time

Awami League candidate Matia Chowdhury has won the Sherpur-2 (Nokla-Nalitabari) constituency in the 12th National Parliamentary elections. She was elected unofficially by getting 2 lakh 20 thousand 142 votes in the election. Matia Chowdhury has been elected MP for the sixth time.

The two assistant returning officers of Nokla and Nalitabari announced Awami League presidium member Matia Chowdhury as the winner unofficially around 8 pm on Sunday. 

According to the Assistant Returning Officer, the total number of centers in this seat is 154. Among them, Matia Chowdhury got 2 lakh 12 thousand 142 votes with the boat symbol. Among her rivals, Jasder Lal Mohammad Shahjahan Kibria got 4 thousand 575 votes with the torch symbol. Independent candidate Syed Muhammad Saeed with the eagle symbol got 5 thousand 342 votes.

Matia Chowdhury is the former Agriculture Minister. On January 12, 2023, she took charge as the Deputy Leader of the National Parliament.
