It’s normal to search an office where bombs found: Hasan

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said it is normal that the law enforcers would carry out search operation at the BNP’s party office where live bombs have been found, reports BSS.

“The law enforcers have the duty to reveal whether they (BNP) have kept grenades or any other weapons  inside the photo boxes of Ziaur Rahman or Begum Khaleda Zia. In fact, their rally on December 10 was a super flop,” he said.

The minister said while talking to reporters after unwrapping the covers of three books at the conference room of the Press Information Department (PID) at the Secretariat in the capital.

Hasan said they (BNP), prior to the rally, told that 10 lakh people would take part in their rally, but only about 50,000 people attended the rally.

“Consequently, they are now trying to raise different types of allegations to hide their failure”, he said.

About the mass procession called by BNP on December 24, the minister said there is an evil plot behind the programme as the national council of Awami League will be held on the same day.

BNP has been arranging various types of movements in the last 14 years, he said.

“But the countrymen didn’t respond to them and it will happen this time too”, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

Replying to a query over the bank interest on savings, the minister said the bank interest on savings is one percent in European countries. But the inflation is 10 percent in some countries while 70 percent in Turkey.

People will be misled if reports are published comparing the bank deposit interest rates with inflation. I think it is not appropriate at all,” he added.

Earlier, Hasan unwrapped the covers of books ‘Bangabandhur Tin Projommer Rajniti’ written by journalist Motahar Hossain, ‘Professor Mohammad Ali Souvenir’ on the life and works of Chattogram University former vice-chancellor and eminent teacher of English literature Professor Mohammad Ali and ‘Derozio: Life and Works’ written by Professor Dr Shaktisadhan Mukhupadhya.

Principal Information Officer Md Shahenur Mia, writer Motahar Hossain and senior officials of PID were present at the function.
