Govt will renew passports for 69,000 Rohingyas

Bangladesh’s Home Minister, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, said that the passports of around 69,000 Rohingya refugees will be renewed for their journey to Saudi Arabia.

The announcement came after a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia at a hotel in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal stated, “Nearly 69,000 Rohingya have gone to Saudi Arabia from Bangladesh. According to Saudi regulations, if they don‍‍`t have passports, they will be sent back to their country. However, it has been decided later that they won‍‍`t be sent back; instead, their passports will be renewed. Discussions were also held during the meeting to enhance the capabilities of BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) and police. Additionally, the issue of sending Ansar from both countries was also discussed.”

Minister further mentioned the discussions regarding the Hajj pilgrimage, saying, “Hajj pilgrims will be able to board the train quickly. Besides, a service named ‍‍`Route to Makkah’ has been initiated, through which the bags and luggage of the Hajj pilgrims will be sent directly from the airport to their destination.”
