Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Taslim Hussain, stationed at Sonagazi Circle in Feni, faces allegations of assaulting tourists at the Muchapur Closer area tourist center in Companyganj, Noakhali. Among the victims is a constable.
The incident occurred last Friday, the second day of Eid-ul-Fitr, around 5:30 pm, on the Muchapur Closer road.
Video footage of the incident surfaced on Monday morning, depicting ASP Taslim Hussain wielding a stick and assaulting several individuals. Witnesses reported that Hussain, along with others, kicked and punched the tourists.
The injured individuals include Ali Azgar (36) from Malipara village, Sundalpur Union of Kabirhat, Noakhali, his brother Police Constable Omar Farooq (31), and Azgar`s wife (27).
Recounting the incident, Azgar stated, "I went to Muchapur Closer with my family and friends on Eid. While returning on a motorcycle with my wife and children, a police car approached from the opposite direction, causing traffic congestion. ASP Taslim Hussain emerged from the car and began using profanity towards people. When I objected, he assaulted me and continued to do so when my wife and brother intervened."
Azgar continued, "Subsequently, several others from the car joined in and assaulted us. We sustained injuries and were later admitted to Kabirhat Upazila Health Complex. We demand justice for this unwarranted brutality and will file a formal complaint with the relevant authorities."
ASP Taslim Hussain acknowledged the incident, describing it as a `misunderstanding`. He explained, "I visited Muchapur with my family, and upon encountering traffic congestion, attempted to normalize the situation. However, Azgar reacted aggressively, leading to a confrontation. After intervening, the matter was resolved."
Feni Superintendent of Police (SP) Zakir Hossain stated, "No formal complaint has been received. Any complaint will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken."
ASP Taslim Hussain, a native of Faridpur, joined Sonagazi Circle in January last year.
