The High Court ordered Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to take down all recent video statements made by acting chairperson of the BNP, Tarique Rahman, from social media.

The decision was made on Monday by the High Court bench of Justices Md. Khasruzzaman and Md. Khairul Alam.

In the meantime, the BNP‍‍`s legal team informed the chief justice that they had lost trust in this High Court bench.

Deputy Attorney General Bepul Bagmar represented the state, while on the other side Kamrul Islam, Saeed Ahmed Raza, Sanjida Khanom were present at the court as lawyers of Tarique Rahman.

A writ petition was submitted in 2015 by lawyer Nasreen Siddiqui Lina to prevent the media from publishing Tariq Rahman‍‍`s remarks.

The plaintiff asked the information secretary for instructions on how to stop future publications, broadcasts, and reproductions of Tarique Rahman‍‍`s remarks in any newspaper, electronic media outlet, or social media.

After hearing the petition on January 7, 2015, the High Court prohibited the media from airing the remarks of the acting BNP chairperson since he was a wanted fugitive.
