Mamata home infiltrator has links to Bangladesh: Kolkata police

The Kolkata police, probing the July 3 security breach at West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence, has found that the intruder, Hafizul Molla (31), had been using 11 SIM cards.

Hafizul, a resident of Hasnabad, North 24 Parganas, had used those SIM cards to make calls to Bihar, Jharkhand and Bangladesh, reports Times of India.

Hafizul had sneaked into the high-security residence of Banerjee, a Z-plus protectee, with an iron rod hidden in his shirt and remained unnoticed on the high-security premises for over seven hours. The incident had led to a large-scale shake-up of the security unit tasked with guarding CM’s residence.

The Kolkata police told an Alipore court on Monday that Hafizul had reconnoitred the CM’s residence at least seven to eight times since March and had photographed the house and its precincts.

The accused had visited Bangladesh once during the Durga Puja immersions, crossing over to the other side of the Ichhamati River by boat.

The Alipore court extended Hafizul‍‍`s police remand for another seven days.
