DGHS suggests 10-day lockdown expansion

The health department wants to extend the ongoing tougher restrictions by 10 days to control the coronavirus surge.

Directorate General of Health Services ABM Khurshid Alam said this while talking to newsmen on Friday (July 30).

“We have recommended the expansion of curbing measures during a cabinet meeting 10 days back. However, no decision is taken yet in this regard,” Khurshid Alam said.

He said, “The infection has been spreading such a way, how will we tackle that? Where will we accommodate the patients? If the contamination spreads like this, how will the situation be controlled? No doubt that the situation will worsen further. We have suggested the expansion considering these matters.”

Earlier on July 23, the country entered a 14-day lockdown which was described to be ‘toughest ever’ till August 5 midnight. Armed forces personnel have been deployed to implement the Covid-19 safety protocols.

“We recommended extending the restriction period. But, the government will take the final decision,” the DGHS boss furthered.
