Chinese national among 6 jailed for embezzlement

A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced six people, including a Chinese national, to different jail terms in a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over embezzling Tk 2.59 crore.

Chinese National Yang Wang Chung, chairman of The Sinfa Knitters Ltd, and its managing director (MD) Khasru Al Rahman were sentenced to 13 years, while directors Mansurul Haque and Golam Mostafa were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.

Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-5 Judge Md Iqbal Hossain delivered the verdict in presence of the then senior-vice president (export) of National Bank Ltd at Dilkusha branch Abdul Wadud and its executive vice-president Shahabuddin Chowdhury.

ACC deputy director Jahangir Hossain filed the case with Motijheel Police Station on January 17, 2017.

On June 24, 2018, the ACC submitted a chargesheet against the six persons and the court framed charges against them on September 18, 2019.
