Bus owners agree to charge half fare for students

In the wake of ‘half-pass’ demand, bus owners have decided to charge half fare for students.

The owners association will uphold the matter in a press conference soon, Bangla Tribune reports.

“We have decided to charge half fare for students. But we have some conditions,” said Bus owners association secretary Enayet Ullah.

Earlier, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) declared to charge half fare at all BRTC buses which will come into force Thursday (December 1).

Students will get the advantage from 7am to 8pm. However, unlike the BRTC buses, students will enjoy the facilities from 8am to 8pm in private buses.

On November 26, the Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, a gazette notification would be issued soon regarding the BRTC half fare.

Sources said, the private bus owners will uphold a set of conditions for half pass facility.

Students must carry photo ID card to get the facility while it will not be effective on the day when the educational institutions will remain closed.

Besides, the bus owners will also demand cancelation of toll and several other tax.
