Law Minister: Khaleda can do politics, but not participate in upcoming polls

Law Minister Anisul Huq said, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia can participate in politics but is not eligible to contest in the upcoming general election due of her graft conviction.

The minister added, "If she will do politics or not, it's her personal affair," that the government will not interfere with her decision.

After completing an orientation course at the city's Judicial Administration Training Institute (JATI), the minister came up with this remark in front of the reporters.

"According to the constitution, everyone who has received a two-year prison sentence is ineligible to vote. Nothing new has to be mentioned," Anisul added.

The BNP leader has been convicted of graft cases in Zia Orphanage Trust and sentenced to 10 years in jail. In another corruption case involving Zia Charitable Trust she has been given seven years of imprisonment. Her sentences have been suspended by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on humanitarian grounds because of her poor health.
